Welp, there goes that! Yeah, I loaded up my map making farm and people were kicking chests all OVER the place! Hearing a dozen chest thumping noises all at once (I use a time speed mod) was both hilarious and disheartening. I use the chests to indicate where walking hasn’t occurred, and someone just pushing it along doesn’t track that properly.
So, I asked for some help in the SDV creator community and got some good advice, but ultimately dug around in the code to remove the object property for chests to make them destructible again. We like destruction in this farm.
I had been thinking of updating the look of these maps for a while now too, so I changed the look of the chests to be the green building placement square, and filled in any actual paths with a modified path to look like the red placement square.
I am also extremely embarrassed to admit this, but making the original maps took days longer than needed. I didn’t even think to use debug console commands back then, and I started placing items and paths one by one over again. Then I remembered the clearfarm command, so I figured there should be a fill with debris or something. I found the debug fillwithobject command and my soul left my body. I could literally just input the object id and the game will fill any available space with said item.
And here I was filling in spaces one by one like some Joja chump.
With that knowledge, (and after staring at myself in the mirror working through a roller coaster of emotions, questioning my purpose and the time I have left in this world and thinking about how much I had lost and wasted) I got back to work.
So, I now have all locations in the Stardew Valley Maps filled with green squares for original safe spaces, red squares for original destroyed spaces, and filled the red paths back up with some blue crates, so I can see what old unsafe spaces are now safe, and what old safe spaces are bad spots, and I let the game run in the background while doing other things, so here we are!
I also remarried everyone, and did my best to account for different events and schedule changes.
And you want to know what happened? Haha! I broke my save file. The original farm I used for this somehow got a bit messed up with some rouge mod used that wasn’t fully updated to the current Stardew version, and the villagers went out of their way to destroy everything for some reason. So, I had to a whole new file, and went through the whole process again, which is why this took a few weeks longer than planned.
Actually, what happened was something that was added in the game as of 1.6. Villagers will opt to avoid any space that has something that’s classified as “TerrainFeatures” such as the new trees, and unfortunately, paths WERE currently under that classification prior to the 1.6.9 update. If you kept placing down flooring, villagers wrecked havoc. Concerned Ape reached out and informed me that it was going to be fixed with an update, and as of November 4th it is! YAY!

And as a bonus, I added additional maps for any area affected by marriage candidates. I’ve marked the people who change each map, and a version showing just their damage, as well as an alternative map for if you don’t marry any of those listed. Elliott makes no changes to any maps after marriage, and the most destructive prize goes to Alex, at 46 spaces destroyed after his 14❤️️ event, followed closely by Emily, with 44 spaces, mostly at the beach.

Pelican TownWith All Marriageable Villager Paths
This map got a major overhaul, a lot of paths shifted a bit, changing the map quite a bit. Plus the new Festivals added some more villager paths.
*Note* there is a secret on the map, and I didn’t mark it because I believe in the joy of discovery. But if you want to know, it’s a safe space, no one goes there.
The Bus StopWith All Marriageable Villager Paths
Emily takes the bus on Fall 15 that destroys 4 spots, and it’s the same route taken by any marriage candidate during the Desert Festival.
Cindersap ForestWith All Marriageable Villager Paths
Pictured after Year 3 and the Trash Bear has done their thing. I finally got around to grabbing Robin’s axe but she’s probably never getting it back. That spawning in destroyed a chest but it should be safe after that is done.
1.6 added a festival that brought a lot of foot traffic, with the booth taking out some space.
The Ocean and TidepoolsWith All Marriageable Villager Paths
A lot of chests were destroyed when the Villagers started heading to Willy’s Boat, as well as some on the docks from when I got married to a couple of different candidates.
With the new 1.6 festival here, there is a bit more foot traffic and some spaces taken out by the stall.
Emily has the only marriage path that breaks additional spots.
The MountainsWith All Marriageable Villager Paths
The Mountains have a bit more added land this update, but not much has changed apart from that. Both Abigail and Sebastian break some spaces here. Once you have all the community upgrades, Sebastian will use the path to cross the lake, married or not.
The Trainyard / Railroad
I have also made an alternative version of this map, with the places that you can place furniture items to make those visiting villagers “phase” through all your stuff. Note on that: I gave Linus a little extra space, otherwise his path will break and he’ll wander off and potentially bulldoze a bunch of stuff.
Bathhouse
Calico Desert
Emily visits Sandy for her birthday once a year, and they go on a rampage. The villager paths haven’t changed with the 1.6 update, which is nice. The new festival changes to an alternative new map like all other festivals, so your things will remain untouched.
And I’ve included an alternative of the Stardew Valley maps with crystal “furniture” items placed in what I think are the best spots to avoid having anything damaged at all, allowing them to phase right through your stuff.

Note about Green Rain: This summer event brings a lot more people here, but apart from Clint and Gus, they don’t move. Haley and Penny stand in spots that are “safe” spaces any other day, but the item won’t get destroyed as the villagers are just spawned in the spot and don’t move or add the villager paths. Also, I have noticed after testing a good 20+ in game years that the Green Rain schedule only seems to apply to Year 1. After that, it seems like Green Rain gets treated as a regular rainy day, and only affects the Stardew Valley maps in other areas.
